President-elect Donald Trump will tap Brendan Carr as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, he said in a statement on Sunday.
Carr is currently the top Republican on the FCC, an independent agency which regulates interstate and international communications.
Calling him a ‘warrior for Free Speech,’ Trump first nominated Carr to serve on the FCC in 2017.
‘His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman,’ Trump, 78, said in a statement.
‘Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that stifled Americans’ Freedoms and held back our economy,’ he added.
Carr, 45, has stuck to his GOP leanings in recent months, continually criticizing the Biden White House‘s handling of broadband expansion subsidies.
Carr also authored a chapter on the FCC in the Project 2025 planning document, in which he argued how the agency should also regulate the largest tech companies, such as Apple, Meta, Google and Microsoft.

Scrutiny of World Bank intensifies over $24 billion in unaccounted climate funds
Scrutiny has intensified over the World Bank’s handling of climate funds, with a recent report by Oxfam revealing that between $24 billion and $41 billion in climate finance disbursed by the Bank over the past seven years remains unaccounted for.
This staggering amount, equivalent to nearly 40% of all climate funds disbursed by the Bank during this period, raises serious questions about transparency and accountability.
The World Bank has pledged over $100 billion to combat climate change, but a new report by Oxfam found that up to $41 billion of this spending is “effectively unaccounted for” due to poor record-keeping by the World Bank.
A World Bank insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, suggested the figure for the missing money “could be twice or 10 times more.”
“All the figures are routinely made up,” the source said. “Nobody has a clue about who spends what.”
Oxfam’s report, titled ‘Climate Finance Unchecked’, was published on 17 October ahead of COP29 in Azerbaijan which is currently taking place, and during which climate finance is taking centre stage.
The report alleges that the World Bank’s current approach to tracking climate finance is flawed and makes it impossible to verify its expenditures and impact. Specifically, the Bank’s accounting system, which tracks climate finance at the time of project approval rather than project completion, makes it difficult to verify how funds were spent.
Oxfam’s investigation revealed that obtaining even basic information on how the World Bank is using climate finance was painstaking and difficult.
“We had to sift through layers of complex and incomplete reports, and even then, the data was full of gaps and inconsistencies. The fact that this information is so hard to access and understand is alarming – it shouldn’t take a team of professional researchers to figure out how billions of dollars meant for climate action are being spent. This should be transparent and accessible to everyone, most importantly communities who are meant to benefit from climate finance,” Kate Donald, Head of Oxfam International’s Washington D.C. Office, said.
The World Bank’s centrality to climate finance makes its lack of transparency all the more troublesome, according to Oxfam, which argues that the bank’s claims of ambition are impossible to verify without more precise and transparent accounting methods.
Oxfam estimates that the difference between budgeted and actual expenditures on climate finance amounts to tens of billions of dollars over six years. And the World Bank’s opacity in accounting methods has led to concerns about mismanagement, corruption and the potential diversion of funds away from their intended purpose. Read more…

The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant
LONDON — The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
The court’s decision followed allegations leveled in May by the ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan.
Those allegations, which underpinned the warrants, focused on the period between Oct. 8, 2023 and May 20, 2024, and encompassed the alleged use of “starvation as a method of warfare” and “intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population,” as well as what the prosecutor’s team said was the deliberate targeting of medical facilities and restrictions on medical and humanitarian supplies.

Khan, the chief prosecutor, had previously sought arrest warrants for two other Hamas leaders, Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, but withdrew these requests as both men have since been confirmed dead.

Early Exposure to BPA May Increase Risk of Heart Disease, Stroke, Type 2 Diabetes in Later Life
BPA is a type of chemical widely found in consumer and industrial products, especially in processed food and food packaging. An endocrine disruptor, it is known to cause hormonal problems that contribute to chronic disease as you age.
Early exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) may increase your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and obesity later in life, even in small doses, a recent study has found.
BPA is a type of chemical widely found in consumer and industrial products, especially in processed food and food packaging. An endocrine disruptor, it is known to cause hormonal problems that contribute to chronic disease as you age.
The study, published in September in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, is the first of its kind to assess the relationship between BPA exposure and cardiometabolic health outcomes from childhood to adolescence, using a large variety of health markers.
Cardiometabolic health refers to the overall health of your heart and blood vessels, and your body’s ability to process nutrients, regulate blood sugar and maintain a healthy weight.
“Our results point to the need to reduce exposure to BPA in the early stages of life,” say the researchers, led by Sofia Almeida Costa at the Institute of Public Health at the University of Porto in Portugal.
To gauge its effects on the body from dietary sources over time, Costa and her colleagues followed 3,138 children and adolescents, ages 4 to 13, from a prospective Portuguese birth cohort.
Bisphenol A exposure most common through diet, plastics
Food and beverages are considered the most significant source of human exposure to BPA. Ultra-processed foods, for instance, heavily rely on plastics for production and packaging, and chemicals can migrate into food from food processing equipment and packaging, among other ways.
In Portugal, 57% of the food items consumed by the population in 2015-2016 were reported with associated packaging materials, including 69% plastic materials and 3% metal.
After accounting for factors such as diet and energy intake, the researchers found higher BPA exposure was linked to certain health risk factors, including:
- Higher blood insulin levels and insulin resistance, which means the body can’t use the hormone insulin properly to regular blood sugar (glucose) levels.
- Higher body mass index (BMI), which uses height and weight to classify weight as healthy or unhealthy.
- Increased fat mass, an increased amount of body fat relative to total body weight
- Larger waist circumference, which measures abdominal fat.
“We conclude that global strategies need to be developed and implemented to mitigate bisphenol A exposure,” the researchers say. Read more…
More than one in three children in poverty as UK deprivation hits record high

More than one in three children and a quarter of adults are living in poverty in the UK as deprivation levels rise to the highest in the 21st century, according to a landmark report.
The study by the Social Metrics Commission (SMC), which uses measures recently adopted by the UK government, found the cost of living crisis had plunged 2 million more people into severe hardship since 2019.
In total, more than 16 million people are defined as living in poverty, or 24% of the UK population – the highest since comparable records began in 2000.
Children accounted for the biggest rise of any social group falling into poverty, the report found, with an extra 260,000 on the breadline since before the Covid pandemic, meaning a record 36%, or 5.2 million children, were in deprivation.
It is likely to reignite calls for Labour to scrap the two-child benefit cap as, of those 5.2 million children, more than half (55%) lived in families with three or more children. Schools shut in ‘world’s most polluted city’ – as toxic smog worsens far above safety limit
Schools have been shut in New Delhi after “hazardous” toxic smog worsened.
Authorities in India‘s capital, which is home to more than 33 million people, have also halted construction as part of efforts to control the air pollution.
Airlines have warned of delays due to visibility dropping to around 100 metres due to the worst pollution of the season so far.
The air quality is many times worse than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended safety limit.
Live rankings by Swiss technology company IQAir warn New Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, according to Reuters. IQAir also says the air quality is “hazardous”, with pollution levels which can cause diseases and cardiac problems.
India’s main environmental agency SAFAR has said the pollution is severe.
Classes for most school grades are being held online, while no trucks will be allowed to enter the city except those carrying essential items.

Trudeau then blamed the Canadian populace for speaking out against his carbon tax, saying “unfortunately, we have an awful lot of public amplification of the kind of narrative that is directly opposed to that,” referring to those who prioritize shelter and food over his government’s “climate change” tax schemes.

Leading Scientists Declare ‘Climate Emergency’ Is a Scam
A group of leading climate scientists have declared that the so-called ‘climate emergency’ is a scam being perpetuated by the global elite.
A two-day climate conference in Prague, organised by the Czech division of the international Climate Intelligence Group (Clintel), which took place on November 12-13 in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic in Prague, “declares and affirms that the imagined and imaginary ‘climate emergency’ is at an end”.
Wattsupwiththat.com reports: The communiqué, drafted by the eminent scientists and researchers who spoke at the conference, makes clear that for several decades climate scientists have systematically exaggerated the influence of CO2 on global temperature.
The high-level scientific conference also declared:
“The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which excludes participants and published papers disagreeing with its narrative, fails to comply with its own error-reporting protocol and draws conclusions some of which are dishonest, should be forthwith dismantled.”
The declaration supports the conclusions of the major Clintel report The Frozen Climate Views of the IPCC [presented to the Conference by Marcel Crok, Clintel’s co-founder].
Moreover, the scientists at the conference declared that even if all nations moved straight to net zero emissions, by the 2050 target date the world would be only about 0.1 C cooler than with no emissions reduction.
So far, the attempts to mitigate climate change by international agreements such as the Paris Agreement have made no difference to our influence on climate, since nations such as Russia and China, India and Pakistan continue greatly to expand their combustion of coal, oil and gas.
The cost of achieving that 0.1 C reduction in global warming would be $2 quadrillion, equivalent to 20 years’ worldwide gross domestic product. Read more…

Inside Burma’s War Zone: Free Burma Rangers Bring Aid and Hope
In a bombed-out village in Karenni State, Burma (Myanmar), a Free Burma Ranger, a member of the Karenni ethnic group, comforts a woman whose eight-year-old daughter was killed by the Tatmadaw, the Burma Army. In nearby Shan State, during an ongoing assault by the Tatmadaw, another team of Rangers evacuated 500 internally displaced people. Tatmadaw mortar and drone attacks claimed the lives of one man and an eight-year-old girl, and a former Ranger was injured after stepping on a landmine, resulting in the loss of his leg. Ranger team members provided emergency medical care for the wounded. In northern Karen State, Rangers responded after the Burma military launched airstrikes and other attacks on civilians, destroying a church, school, clinic, and civilian homes.
Since October of last year, the tide has turned in the world’s oldest ongoing conflict, which began in 1948, with the Tatmadaw steadily losing ground to resistance forces. However, the government’s response has been a surge in airstrikes, primarily targeting civilians and places of worship, particularly churches.
Helping those affected by the war, the Free Burma Rangers (FBR) is a faith-driven aid organization based in the United States that provides frontline humanitarian and spiritual support in conflict zones like Burma, Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine, with their primary focus remaining in Burma, where they have been saving lives for nearly 30 years. FBR teams are composed of members from many of Burma’s 135 ethnic groups, including Karen, Karenni, Shan, Chin, Kachin, Pa-O, and Mon—most of whom are actively resisting the military junta that took control of the country in a 2021 coup. While the Christian faith was foundational to FBR’s creation and is the predominant religion among its members, rangers come from various faiths, including Buddhism, animism, and Islam.
The group’s founder and leader, former special forces officer David Eubank, explained, “Free Burma Rangers are not a religious organization; people are free to join from different faiths as long as we all agree that we do this for love. At the same time, many of the Rangers and most of the leaders are Christians.”
Rangers also follow a strict code stating that they cannot run if the people they are helping cannot run, which means they not only enter danger zones but stay there until the last civilian or wounded person is evacuated. This includes treating wounded Tatmadaw soldiers. Read more…

The system, featuring the largest hypergravity centrifuge, will be able to produce forces thousands of times stronger than Earth’s gravity.
The Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility (CHIEF) is located in Hangzhou, the capital of eastern China’s Zhejiang province.
Once fully operational, it will serve as a multidisciplinary platform to address complex engineering challenges. According to a Chinese online media outlet, Hangzhou’s government hailed its preliminary completion as a milestone in advancing hypergravity research.
“CHIEF will fill a void in super-large hyper-gravity experiment facilities in China. As an indispensable experimentation device, it will provide an advanced experiment platform and offer immense support for the development and verification of major engineering technologies as well as research into cutting-edge matter-related sciences,” said Hangzhou’s government, in a statement earlier.
Furthering gravity research
Approved in 2018 by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), CHIEF began construction in 2020 under Zhejiang University’s guidance.
The facility will house three primary hypergravity centrifuges and 18 onboard units. These centrifuges, machines designed to spin containers rapidly, force heavier materials to the edges or bottom by creating hypergravity conditions, as reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Ford Cuts 800 British Jobs After Electric Car Sales Stall
Ford is to cut 800 jobs in Britain and 4,000 roles across Europe over the next three years as part of a plan to cut production of electric cars as sales stall and competition from China steps up. The Telegraph has more.
The company is axing 4,000 roles across Europe by the end of 2027, with Germany and the U.K. worst hit, as it reduces production of key electric models.
Ford had pledged to overhaul its business on the Continent in early 2021, saying it would go almost completely electric by the end of the decade.
However, it said it had taken significant losses in recent years, compounded by weak demand for electric vehicles, and a lack of government support for the shift.
Ford’s European sales were down 17.9% up to September, far outstripping an industry-wide decline of 6.1%.
It joins Nissan, Volkswagen, Stellantis and General Motors in announcing major cost-cutting plans.
Ford, which employs 5,300 people in Britain, said the layoffs represented about 2.3% of its workforce of 174,000.
The cuts will not affect its manufacturing sites in Dagenham and Halewood, nor its logistics base in Southampton, with the majority of the job losses expected to be administrative or product development roles. …
Ford said Europe’s carmakers faced “significant competitive and economic headwinds while also tackling a misalignment between CO2 regulations and consumer demand for electrified vehicles”.

Nissan last night warned ministers that zero-emission car targets will have an ‘irreversible impact’ on the British motor industry.
Just hours after holding crisis talks with the Government, the Japanese manufacturer said electric vehicle quotas would risk thousands of jobs and billions of pounds in investment.
And as the urgent meeting was underway, Ford unveiled plans to axe 4,000 jobs across Europe including 800 roles in the UK amid flagging electric car sales.
But despite stark warnings from industry leaders, ministers yesterday doubled down on proposals to introduce green targets just minutes after concluding the crunch talks.
Guillaume Cartier, chair of the Nissan Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania region, said: ‘It risks undermining the business case for manufacturing cars in the UK, and the viability of thousands of jobs and billions of pounds in investment.
‘We now need to see urgent action from the Government by the end of the year to avoid a potentially irreversible impact on the UK automotive sector.’
Nissan employs around 7,000 people in the UK including 6,000 at the country’s largest car making plant in Sunderland.
More than 198,000 workers are directly employed in the wider car manufacturing sector, with some 813,000 working in the supply chain. Read more…
