Former First Lady Melania Trump on Nov. 6 issued the first statement since her husband, President-elect Donald Trump, beat Vice President Kamala Harris.
“The majority of Americans have entrusted us with this important responsibility,” Melania Trump, who served as first lady from 2017 through 2021, wrote on social media. “We will safeguard the heart of our republic—freedom. I anticipate the citizens of our nation rejoining in commitment to each other and rising above ideology for the sake of individual liberty, economic prosperity, and security.
“American energy, skill, and initiative will bring together our best minds to propel our nation forward forevermore.”
The 54-year-old, a native of Slovenia, rarely appeared on the campaign trail as her husband sought a second term following his win in 2016 and loss in 2020.
In one of her rare appearances, Melania Trump told a crowd at New York’s Madison Square Garden in October that “New York City and America need their magic back.”
She said: “Let us charge together with a shared vision that builds on American greatness. Let’s seize this moment and create a country for tomorrow, the future that we deserve.”
She then introduced Trump as “our next commander-in-chief.”
Melania Trump took the stage with her husband; their son, Barron Trump; other family members; and supporters, including golfer Bryson DeChambeau, on early Nov. 5 as the former president declared victory.
After Trump thanked several people, he said: “I also want to thank my beautiful wife, Melania.

Republicans had already secured a U.S. Senate majority of at least 52-46, Edison Research projected, and DDHQ projected they would hold at least 218 seats in the House of Representatives, with eight races yet to be called in Tuesday’s election.

Ambassador Kurt Volker is one person with a wealth of experience in issues Trump is likely to face regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Volker served as the U.S. special representative for Ukraine negotiations in 2017-2019, during Trump’s previous tenure. In this role, he held negotiations between Kyiv and senior members of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration as an intermediary while coordinating with European allies on efforts to end Russia’s initial invasion of the eastern Donbas region in 2014, following its occupation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula earlier that year.
Before this, Volker served as U.S. ambassador to the NATO military alliance in 2008-2009.
The Kyiv Independent spoke to Volker via video call a few hours after the election result was called to ask how he sees outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden‘s last months in office, Trump’s return to the presidency, and what it could mean for Ukraine.
The Kyiv Independent: In terms of Ukraine, there’s been a lot already said about what Trump might do once he’s in office, but we still have more than two months of the Biden administration. Do you think we can expect anything surprising from Biden before he leaves office?
Kurt Volker: There has been some discussion that I’ve heard within the administration about the idea of making a gesture in the direction of Ukraine’s NATO membership, or also about approving the use of long-range weapons (to strike deep inside Russia), something that the Biden administration has denied until now.
On NATO membership, we have to be very, very careful. You don’t want to put that out prematurely. You don’t want it to be uncoordinated with allies. We had an opportunity to do this leading up to the Washington summit this summer, and we didn’t do it. Donald Trump may call for a 800-mile demilitarised zone between Russia and Ukraine as part of a plan to end the war the early.
The proposal, which has been outlined by three Trump staffers, would involve the zone being policed by British and European troops.
It would mean that Russia would keep its territorial gains made in Ukraine with the current border frozen in place. Kyiv would also have to assure that it would not join NATO for 20 years.
Under the plans the US would arm Ukraine in return for preventing Russia from restarting the war. However, responsibility for manning and financing the buffer zone would fall solely on Ukraine’s European allies.

Migrants Abandon Caravan As Trump Win Kills ‘Dream of Getting Out’
Migrants are abandoning a caravan headed for the United States because Donald Trump‘s election win has dashed their “dream of getting out”.
The caravan, which began earlier this week in southern Mexico, included approximately 3,000 migrants seeking asylum or economic opportunities in the U.S.
However, as news of the President Elect’s victory reached their phones, many decided to turn back, fearing deportation.Trump has vowed to initiate a mass deportation program during his next term in the White House.
“This is the end of my dream of getting out of Cuba,” said Felipe, a Cuban migrant who expressed frustration and disappointment at the election results.
Many migrants from South and Central America, like Felipe, join Telegram channels and other social media groups to share information about the U.S. immigration system.
Other migrants in the caravan expressed frustration at what they see as a betrayal by fellow Latinos who supported Trump, given the former president’s hardline stance on immigration.
“They forgot about when they were on the other side,” said Mahily Paz, a Venezuelan migrant.
“Hopefully not, but it seems that parole doesn’t have much time left for us. It’s all so sad,” said Abel, a young man from Ecuador who had hoped to access the U.S. asylum program.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump has said he wouldn’t be a dictator — “except for Day 1.” According to his own statements, he’s got a lot to do on that first day in the White House.
His list includes starting up the mass deportation of migrants, rolling back Biden administration policies on education, reshaping the federal government by firing potentially thousands of federal employees he believes are secretly working against him, and pardoning people who were arrested for their role in the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill,” he said of his Day 1 plans.
When he took office in 2017, he had a long list, too, including immediately renegotiating trade deals, deporting migrants and putting in place measures to root out government corruption. Those things didn’t happen all at once.
How many executive orders in the first week? “There will be tens of them. I can assure you of that,” Trump’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told Fox News on Sunday.
Here’s a look at what Trump has said he will do in his second term and whether he can do it the moment he steps into the White House:
Make most of his criminal cases go away, at least the federal ones.
Trump has said that “within two seconds” of taking office that he would fire Jack Smith, the special counsel who has been prosecuting two federal cases against him. Smith is already evaluating how to wind down the cases because of long-standing Justice Department policy that says sitting presidents cannot be prosecuted.
Smith charged Trump last year with plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and illegally hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Trump cannot pardon himself when it comes to his state conviction in New York in a hush money case, but he could seek to leverage his status as president-elect in an effort to set aside or expunge his felony conviction and stave off a potential prison sentence.
A case in Georgia, where Trump was charged with election interference, will likely be the only criminal case left standing. It would probably be put on hold until at least 2029, at the end of his presidential term. The Georgia prosecutor on the case just won reelection. Read more…

Jack Smith last week asked Judge Chutkan to pause the January 6 case against Trump but his decision to back off isn’t going to shield him from an investigation into his inquisition.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the House Judiciary Committee have launched investigations into Jack Smith’s operation.
According to Politico, career DOJ lawyers – especially the special counsel prosecutors – are terrified after Trump won the election.
The stigma over ties to special counsels has some prosecutors afraid they will be railroaded.

A collective sense of dread has taken hold at the Department of Justice, which drew Donald Trump’s rage like no other part of the federal government during his campaign.
Some career attorneys at DOJ are already considering heading for the exits rather than sticking around to find out whether threats from Trump and his allies are real or campaign bluster. Those threats range from mass firings of “deep state” lawyers to expelling special counsel Jack Smith from the country.
“Everyone I’ve talked to, mostly lawyers, are losing their minds,” said one DOJ attorney, who like most of the people interviewed for this article was granted anonymity to speak freely about colleagues and avoid retribution from the president-elect and his allies. “The fear is that career leadership and career employees everywhere are either going to leave or they’re going to be driven out.”

Kamala Harris Fundraising Going Towards ‘Recount’
Donations to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign are now being partially redirected towards a vote recount effort.
When users go to donate to her campaign on ActBlue, the nonprofit fundraising platform, the fine-print suggests that the vice president’s campaign might be launching a recount effort.
It reads: “The first $41,300/$15,000 from a person/multicandidate committee (“PAC”) will be allocated to the DNC. The next $3,300/$5,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to Harris for President’s Recount Account.”
There is little other information about what the recount account is and what it plans to do. Donald Trump won the election with 312 Electoral College votes, including all seven battleground states.
Some of these states were won by narrow margins. In the closest race, in Wisconsin, Trump won by around 30,000 votes.
Harris conceded the election on Wednesday and said: “We must accept the results of this election.”
Newsweek reached out to ActBlue and the Harris campaign for comment via email outside of regular working hours.
It seems unlikely that Harris’ campaign would call for a recount, given that she has already conceded the election and that multiple states would need to flip to change the results of the election.
Some states have laws that enact an automatic recount if the margin between two candidates is close enough, such as if it is by 0.5 percent of the overall vote.
If the margin doesn’t fall within the threshold for an automatic recount, candidates can still request one if the results meet specific margin requirements. Each state has its own rules for initiating a recount, and requests must typically be made within a certain number of days after the election.

The cabinet of the incoming administration is being filled by voices that were fully censored for years. Employees are reportedly packing their bags at the FDA and other agencies.
Mainstream news commentators are sputtering around with less bravado than they have shown in years. CNN is firing major personalities.
Trump is talking about abolishing the income tax and granting $10K in tax credits per homeschooled child, not to mention blowing up college accreditation systems, among other sweeping changes.
The American Bastille day is coming, not only freeing the political prisoners of January 6 but also many of the unjustly persecuted including Ross Ulbricht, Roger Ver, and Ian Freeman, among so many others. That will be a day of rejoicing.
